The winery
Our winery was constructed by joining four existing stone houses, which allowed the building to maintain its original exterior architecture while transforming the interior into a modern winery.
A mix of old architecture and materials was blended with new sustainable building techniques, including natural cork insulation, thermal insulated glass, and energy efficient lighting. Chestnut beams and stones from Antonio’s grandfather’s original bodega were also integrated into the building.

Winemaking
We strive to create site-specific, modern wines from the historic region of Ribeira Sacra, and seek to elevate the expression of the indigenous varieties of the region: godello and mencía.
Each vintage of Alvaredos-Hobbs is meticulously cared for by our small but intrepid team, with pruning, canopy management and harvest all done by hand in our steeply terraced vineyard parcels surrounding the town of Alvaredos.
We ferment with indigenous yeast, which helps to preserve the delicate aromatics of these varieties, giving them a layered depth and complexity in the finished wines. Aging in French oak and 2500L foudre and keeping new oak usage to a minimum also helps to highlight the unique terroir of Ribeira Sacra, allowing the effects of the region’s slate and granitic soils to impart an elegant minerality to the wines.
